Self compassion involves treating yourself the way you would treat a friend who is having a hard time. Western culture places great emphasis on being kind to our friends, family and neighbors who are struggling. Not so when it comes to ourselves.

Although we struggle to feel good enough in many areas of our lives, an area of particular challenge is our bodies. Our sense of self is closely identified with the body, so our physical appearance has a large impact on how we feel about ourselves.
